The approval of Makena and the future of 17 Alpha Hydroxyprogesterone Caproate is no longer in question
After what seemed to be a victorious approval made by the Food and Drug Administration for the drug Makena, many went into a frenzy about the increased cost for women with high risk pregnancies trying to prevent premature births.

But have no fear, according to an FDA press release, the FDA has no intention of halting the production of Makena’s compounded version, hydroxyprogesterone caproate, for prices ranging from $10 to $20 per dose. Contact your doctor and pharmacist for more information.

The FDA fires on compounded pet medications
The Food and Drug Administration has implemented stricter guidelines and policies regarding compounded veterinary medications. Prepared compounds cannot use pure pharmaceutical ingredients in medications for animals. The elimination of bulk ingredients can negatively impact medications and their effects due to the difficulty in separating active ingredients needed in the medication from the inactive excipients.
