Andropause: The Male Menopause

Andropause is a result of hormonal changes in aging men. It is characterized by a decline in bodily functions.
• Can start as early as age 30
• It is caused by low testosterone, high estrogen or a combination of both.
• Effects of Low Testosterone
           o Decreased Libido and potency
           o Memory Failure
           o Depression
           o Feeling Weak
           o Reduced interest

Today there are a number of treatments available to help men alleviate the symptoms of Andropause.

Always consult with your doctor, ask them which form of treatment may be right for you. Contact us or call us for information and a referral to a doctor near you.

Reduction of Estrogens
The simplest least invasive therapies include loss of weight and increase in exercise. Estrogen in men is stored in fat tissue. Excessive fat will cause excessive estrogen storage and higher conversion of testosterone to estrogen.
Supplementation with Zinc and Vitamin C has proven to have a positive reduction in the change of testosterone to estrogen in your body.

Testosterone Replacement
Bio-Identical Hormones, like testosterone, can be administered as a topical cream, ointment, gel, or as a sublingual troche. They have been used by many men with good results.
• Blood or saliva test should be evaluated to help identify any deficiency.
• Topical application of testosterone can be sufficient to elevate and maintain consistent levels.
• Usually applied or taken (if sublingually) once a day (or divide the daily dose into two applications).

Erectile Dysfunction, ED
ED is usually referred to as the inability to obtain an adequate erection for satisfactory sexual activity. A medical doctor can determine the cause and severity of your condition and the important factors needed in determining the best treatment or combination of treatments for you. With severe dysfunction, Penile Injection therapy is an effective treatment for induced erectile function. Universal Arts Pharmacy, Compounding Laboratory works alongside your doctor in preparing and counseling for the right customized medication for self injection when needed.
